Neurotoxins: Botox Cosmetic®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®
Laughing, frowning, squinting, smiling – all the regular daily muscular movements of your face leave their mark by creating creases, wrinkles and fine lines that give you an aged, tired appearance. Neurotoxins like Botox Cosmetic®, Dysport®, and Xeomin® block the nerve impulses to the muscles, causing them to relax and creating a fresher, more youthful and rested look.
Neurotoxin injections are the most popular cosmetic procedure in the U.S. They’re most commonly used to smooth out these areas:
- Forehead creases
- Crow’s feet around the eyes
- Glabellar lines, sometimes called “elevens” – the vertical lines between the eyebrows
- “Bunny lines” – the fine lines that appear at the top of your nose when you scrunch up your nose or laugh
- Frown lines and fine lines around the mouth
- A “gummy” smile that shows too much of the upper gum line
- Irregular “orange peel” texture along the chin
Neurotoxins are also used as a preventive measure to stop fine lines and wrinkles from developing. In addition to cosmetic procedures, they’re also used to treat excessive sweating in hands, feet and underarms.
Our nurse practitioner will review your medical history, assess your facial anatomy, and discuss the areas you would like to have treated. She will also determine which neurotoxin formulation is best for your needs.
Typically, the entire appointment will last about 20 – 30 minutes. Your injector will map out injection sites and strategically treat each area. Some individuals feel a small pinch during the injection. Small bumps usually appear at injection sites and last anywhere from 15 minutes to a couple of hours. Mild redness, swelling, and bruising are the most common side effects.
Results are not immediate. Final results are typically reached 3 to 7 days after your treatment. If this is your first appointment, your practitioner may inject a more conservative amount and touch up results during a follow-up treatment if needed. This ensures natural, optimal results without risk of over-treating. Results last for three to five months, depending on the individual. When the fine lines and wrinkles begin to reappear, it’s time to schedule your next treatment.
Youthful skin is rich in substances like collagen and hyaluronic acid, which give it volume and fullness. Production of these substances decreases as we age, causing loss of volume along with fine lines, wrinkles and folds. Dermal fillers are injectable gel-like compounds containing naturally occurring hyaluronic acid. Their effect is two-fold: the fillers lift and plump the skin to restore volume and fullness, and stimulate the skin to produce more of its own natural collagen.
Dermal fillers are used to smooth and soften lines around the nose and mouth, smooth out chin creases, and improve facial symmetry. They’re also used to enhance lips to create a fuller appearance and a symmetrical lip outline.
We offer a variety of dermal fillers. Your esthetician will choose the formulation that best meets your needs:
